Francesco Belviso, PhD, PsyD

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

I am a licensed clinical psychologist dedicated to helping individuals and couples feel more grounded in themselves and in their relationships. I create a warm, supportive space where clients can work through life's transitions, process difficult emotions, and build deeper self-awareness. With over fifteen years of experience, I specialize in anxiety, depression, grief, and relationship challenges, and I offer an attuned, culturally sensitive approach for those navigating loss, identity shifts, or interpersonal difficulties.

Having grown up in Italy and moved to the United States as an adult, I understand firsthand the emotional complexity of living between cultures. Over the years, I have provided psychotherapy to clients from over 50 countries. I work extensively with Italians and other international clients—especially international professionals, graduate students, and immigrants—who are navigating homesickness, cultural adjustment, work stress, cultural dissonance, and the unique challenges of building a life far from home.

I also specialize in couples therapy, with a particular focus on intercultural and interfaith partnerships. I work with couples who have relocated to the U.S., as well as partners facing significant decisions about marriage, parenting, career transitions, or responsibilities that span continents. Drawing on research-based methods and clinical experience, I help couples better understand each other's communication styles, resolve conflict, and cultivate greater closeness and connection, including when family-of-origin tensions are part of the picture.

My path to psychology was unconventional. After studying at the Università di Bologna, I came to the U.S. to pursue a Ph.D. in Economics at Princeton University and later worked as a researcher at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and the National Bureau of Economic Research. A profound experience volunteering with terminally ill patients transformed my understanding of what matters most in life and led me to become a psychologist.

I earned my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School and completed my Doctoral Internship and Fellowship at Northwestern University's Counseling and Psychological Services. There, I specialized in multicultural psychology and led initiatives focused on listening skills, emotional awareness, and cross-cultural competencies. I also facilitated a group for individuals returning from international experiences, supporting them in processing reintegration and personal growth.

In addition to clinical work, I teach doctoral-level psychology courses and provide supervision to emerging clinicians.
